Keta Municipal Assembly to launch Sanitation Day at Anlo-Afiadenyigba

Anlo-Afiadenyigba (VR), July 31, GNA-The Keta Municipal Assembly is set to launch its Municipal Sanitation Day Clean-Up Exercise on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at Anlo-Afiadenyigba to boost cleanliness and better sanitation environment in the municipality. 

The event is part of President John Dramani Mahama’s and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government’s “Clean-Up Ghana” agenda, targeted at promote good sanitation practices in the country. 

Mr. Innocent Komla Gawuah, the Keta Municipal Coordinating Director, told the Ghana News Agency that good sanitation was essential for maintaining public health and preventing the spread of diseases. 

“Proper waste management and disposal are critical in keeping our environment clean to help reduce the risk of waterborne diseases,” he stated. 

He said that the government has implemented various policies to promote good sanitation practices in the country and the “Clean-Up Ghana” agenda was one of such initiative aimed at encouraging citizens to take an active role in keeping the environment clean. 

He urged stakeholders and organisations within the municipality to play a crucial role in promoting good sanitation practices and make it part of their daily routines. 

“The Keta Municipal Assembly is working with local communities, organizations, and individuals to ensure the success of the sanitation day exercise.” 

He explained that bad sanitation could have severe effects on public health and the environment and poor waste management may lead to the spread of diseases, pollution of water sources, and degradation of the environment that could affect human and other living things. 

He said the Assembly is calling on the public to join hands in keeping the environment clean and encouraged residents to participate in the sanitation day exercise and make it a habit to keep the surroundings clean at all times. 

Other details GNA gathered revealed that the sanitation day exercise would take place in on Saturday, August 9, Anlo-Afiadenyigba, starting at 0700 hours and the event is expected to bring together residents, organisations, stakeholders and individuals to promote good sanitation practices in the municipality. 

Some residents GNA engaged described the launch of the sanitation day exercise as a significant step towards promoting good sanitation practices in the Keta municipality and urge others to participate in the event and make a commitment to keeping the environment clean.
