The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) will announce its Sports Journalist of the Year this Sunday, August 3, at Central Hotel, North Ridge.

The prestigious award spotlights excellence in a field vital to Ghana’s athletic storytelling and inspiration.

Five finalists Asbella Nana Akua Amakwah, Fiifi Anaman, Bill Eshun, Nii Bruce Tagoe, and Yaw Ofosu Larbie await the verdict from SWAG’s independent judging panel. Nominees were evaluated on writing quality, ethical rigor, storytelling impact, and adaptability to evolving media landscapes. Their reporting spanned football, athletics, boxing, para sports, and emerging disciplines like armwrestling.

Past winners since the award’s 2022 inception include Saddick Adams, Juliet Bawuah, Gary Al-Smith, and Bright Kamkam Boadu. SWAG emphasized the honor reflects journalists’ role in shaping national sports narratives and elevating athlete recognition.

The ceremony will gather media professionals, athletes, and industry stakeholders at Central Hotel. SWAG noted heightened anticipation among finalists, acknowledging the award’s career-defining significance in Ghana’s competitive journalism landscape.
