Stop spreading falsehoods — NDC’s Madilo cautions NPP

A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) communication team, Wonder Madilo, has issued a strong caution to the New Patriotic Party (NPP), warning them to desist from misinforming the public in their bid to discredit the new administration.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on Wednesday, July 30,  Madilo said the NDC government remains focused on delivering its mandate to Ghanaians and will not tolerate propaganda or falsehoods designed to undermine its credibility.

“We will not allow the NPP to trumpet things that do not exist. We owe it a responsibility to correct the wrong impressions they are putting out. We are conscious that we are talking to Ghanaians, and they are the best judges of our performance,” he stated.

Mr. Madilo emphasised that while the NDC welcomes healthy opposition and constructive criticism, it will not permit a repeat of what he described as the NPP’s 2016 playbook, where, according to him, misinformation and populist narratives were used to sway public opinion.

“What we don’t want is for the NPP to go off on their own, fabricating stories and presenting them as facts. Ghanaians are watching closely this time,” he added.

Madilo’s comments come at a time when the new NDC government is under public scrutiny over a series of tax adjustments it has introduced within its first seven months in office, moves it says are necessary to stabilise the economy inherited from the previous administration.

However, the NPP Minority in Parliament has labelled the changes as harsh and inconsistent with the NDC’s promises of relief. At a press conference on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, the NPP’s Deputy Ranking Member on the Finance Committee, Dr. Gideon Boako, criticised the government for what he called an “unprecedented” rush of new tax policies.

According to him, the Growth and Sustainability Levy increased from 1% to 3% with its expiration extended to 2028, a new 1% special import levy, and a 21.9% VAT on life insurance premiums excluding motor vehicle coverage.
