The Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has declared an end to the unregulated and indiscriminate awarding of road contracts in the country.

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series held at the Jubilee House on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, he said the current administration is committed to restoring discipline and transparency in the road sector.

According to him, previous administrations contributed to inefficiencies in the sector by awarding contracts without proper planning, budgetary allocation, or adherence to due process.

“The era of uncontrolled, unregulated award of road contracts is far gone. We now have in place strict procurement procedures and prioritisation mechanisms to ensure that every project we undertake is necessary, properly funded, and delivered on time,” he stated.

Agbodza said such practices created a backlog of unpaid contractors and led to several stalled projects, undermining both public trust and national development.

He assured the public that his sector will continue to scrutinise all ongoing and future projects, working closely with relevant state institutions to promote accountability and value for money.

“We are building a system that focuses not just on numbers, but on quality, integrity, and sustainability,” he said.
