Lifeless body of prison officer found in River Pompo

A lifeless body of a prison officer has been found in River Pompo at Pomposo, a suburb in the Obuasi East District in the Ashanti Region.

The victim, identified as Constable Clement Tei Gyabah, was seen in the river along with his motorbike, though the circumstances leading to the incident remain unclear.

Per reports by some eyewitnesses, the officer was seen riding his motorcycle to work around 5 am on Wednesday, July 30, from Asokore when it was drizzling. On his way, he veered off the road, hitting a motorcycle on a concrete barricade, which serves as a pedestrian safety barrier between cars using the River Pompo.

On the contrary, others believe he was hit by a moving car on that stretch, which led to the unfortunate incident due to the laceration found on parts of his body.

Residents and passers-by were left in shock on Wednesday morning upon the discovery of the body.

The Police have retrieved the body and deposited it at the morgue pending investigations.

Officials of the Ghana Prisons Service have confirmed the incident but say they will issue an official statement in due course.
