42 road projects to be prioritised under Big Push agenda


The Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has announced that the government will prioritise major road projects across the country as part of the ambitious Big Push infrastructure agenda outlined in the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) 2024 manifesto.

Speaking at the Government’s Accountability Series on Wednesday, July 30, Mr Agbodza said the initiative forms a core part of the government’s broader infrastructure development policy aimed at enhancing national connectivity, reducing traffic congestion, and stimulating inclusive economic growth.

The Ministry of Roads and Highways, he added, has conducted extensive technical studies and developed detailed engineering plans, along with cost estimates for all selected road projects under the Big Push Programme.

The Ministry of Finance has since issued commitment authorisations for the implementation of these projects.

Below are the 42 priority road projects earmarked under the Big Push initiative:

  1. Construction of a new bridge on the Oti River at Dambai;
  2. Rehabilitation of Wa-Han Road;
  3. Upgrading of Tumu – Hamile Road;
  4. Upgrading of Tumu – Han – Lawra Road;
  5. Reconstruction of Navrongo – Tumu Road;
  6. Rehabilitation of Techiman – Nkonsia – Wenchi Road;
  7. Rehabilitation of Wenchi- Sawla Road;
  8. Construction of Sunyani Outer Ring Road;
  9. Construction Of Kumasi Outer Ring Road (Eastern Quadrant);
  10. Rehabilitation of Gbintri – Nakpanduri Road;
  11. Rehabilitation of Dodo Pepesu – Nkwanta Road;
  12. Rehabilitation of Atimpoku – Asikuma Junction Road;
  13. Rehabilitation of Asikuma Junction – Anyirawasi Road;
  14. Reconstruction of Anyirawasi – Ho Tritrinu Road;
  15. Upgrading of Akosombo-Gyakiti-Kudikope Road;
  16. Upgrading of Asikuma to Anum Boso-Kpalime Road;
  17. Upgrading of Adomi Bridge to Akwamufie Road;
  18. Rehabilitation of Ho – Aflao Road
  19. Dualization of Winneba – Mankessim Road;
  20. Dualization Of Cape Coast- Takoradi Road;
  21. Rehabilitation of Mankessim-Ajumako-Breman Asikuma-Agona Swedru
  22. Rehabilitation of Tema – Aflao Road (Section 1);
  23. Reconstruction of Dodowa – Afienya-Dawhenya Road;
  24. Upgrading Of Oyibi-Appolonia-Afienya Road;
  25. Construction of Enchi – Elubo Road;
  26. Construction of Dadieso – Akontombra Road;
  27. Upgrading of Adwofua – Oseikojokrom Road;
  28. Upgrading of Enchi – Kudjouru – Pekyi Road; and
  29. Upgrading of Bediako Junction – Camp 15 – Sefwi Adabokrom Road
  30. Rehabilitation and Upgrading of Kasoa – Winneba Road;
  31. Rehabilitation of Ofankor – Nsawam Road (Dual Carriageway);
  32. Dualization of Takoradi – Agona Junction Road;
  33. Construction of Suame Interchange and Local Roads;
  34. Construction of National Route N18: Wa – Han Road;
  35. Upgrading of Tumu – Chuchuliga – Navrongo, including construction of 36m
    span reinforced concrete bridge over Kanyibie River and a 24m span
    reinforced concrete bridge over Bechelihu River;
  36. Reconstruction of Navrongo – Chuchuliga – Sandema Road;
  37. Rehabilitation of Tepa (Mabang) – Goaso Road;
  38. Rehabilitation of Hohoe – Jasikan Road;
  39. Upgrading of Nkwanta – Oti Damanko Road;
  40. Reconstruction of Have – Hohoe Road;
  41. Dualization of Adenta – Dodowa Road; and
  42. Reconstruction of Jinijini – Sampa Road.
