A storm is brewing in the family of the late highlife legend, Daddy Lumba, following shocking revelations made by his uncle and family spokesperson, Abusuapanin Kofi Owusu.
In a interview shared on YouTube by GHPage, Abusuapanin Kofi Owusu boldly stated that the family does not recognise the woman publicly known as Odo Broni as the wife of the late musician. “We don’t know Odo Broni. We only know Akosua Serwaa as Daddy Lumba’s legitimate wife,” he declared.
This comes days after Odo Broni, believed by many fans to be the singer’s partner, was seen publicly mourning and being referred to as Lumba’s widow. But the family says they are both surprised and disturbed by her presence and media attention.
According to Abusuapanin Kofi Owusu, there has never been a formal introduction of Odo Broni to the family, and no traditional or legal union between her and Daddy Lumba was ever acknowledged. “She’s never been brought home. We don’t even know her real name. But Akosua Serwaa, we know her well – she’s the one we consider his wife,” he insisted.
Akosua Serwaa, a name now thrust back into the spotlight, is said to have been part of Lumba’s life for decades and has long been acknowledged by the family as his spouse, even if quietly so.
The family’s statement is likely to deepen the mystery surrounding Daddy Lumba’s private life, which he kept largely away from the public eye throughout his career. While fans were familiar with Odo Broni through appearances in music videos and occasional social media posts, little was ever disclosed officially about his marital status.
As funeral arrangements are being discussed, this public disassociation from Odo Broni is expected to spark controversy and raise questions about her role in Lumba’s later life—and what it means for decisions surrounding his burial.
“We are not here to disrespect anyone,” Abusuapanin added. “But as a family, we must protect the truth and honour the legacy of our brother the right way.”
As Ghana continues to mourn the music icon, it appears his passing has unearthed more than just sorrow—it has exposed long-buried family secrets and uncertainties.
