The government has declared a total ban on the possession of arms, ammunition, and other offensive weapons by individuals within the Nalerigu and Bawku Townships and their surrounding areas.

A statement released by the Minister for the Interior on July 27, 2025, warned residents that anyone found in possession of such weapons will be arrested and prosecuted.

A curfew has also been imposed on Nalerigu Township and its environs due to the disturbances.

Another statement released on Sunday, July 27, by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson to the President, emphasised that the curfew imposed on Bawku and its environs is intended to facilitate a safe and orderly evacuation process for students.

This development follows a series of violent incidents, including the tragic killing of two students from Nalerigu Senior High School on Saturday, July 27, 2025.

Some students were fatally shot by unidentified gunmen who invaded the school premises in the early hours of Saturday, July 26.

In response to the escalating violence, the government has initiated the evacuation of students from educational institutions in Bawku, Nalerigu, and surrounding affected areas.

Several students have reportedly been targeted amid the unrest.

“Government calls on the chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth and people of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them as well as to use non-violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace,” the statement by Felix Kwakye Ofosu added.
