Dr Dominic Akuritinga Ayine is the Attorney General and Minister of Justice
The Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, has disclosed that his office was offered an amount of GH¢10 million by the former founder of the defunct Beige Capital Bank, a settlement offer he outrightly refused.
According to him, his office can no longer retrieve even a meager amount from the case due to the court’s ruling acquitting the former Beige Bank founder, Michael Nyinaku, of all charges.
Dr Ayine disclosed this during the Government Accountability Series held on Monday, July 28, 2025, whiles providing reasons for entering a nolle prosequi in the Unibank case.
He stressed that although the charges were legally contestable, records indicated to him that the defense could have raised sufficient doubts to secure an acquittal, resulting in no benefit to the State, as seen in the Beige Capital case.
“When I did the press release, I did not mention Beige Capital because at that point in time, I did not know that the decision was coming down. Now, as providence would have it, the decision came a day after, right?
“I can now disclose that Beige Capital offered me or my office GH¢10 million. You can ask the lawyers for Beige Capital, ask lawyer Thaddeus Sory. They offered GH¢10 million in settlement and I refused. Today, I can’t get 50 pesewas from Beige Capital, so the dynamics are complex,” he indicated.
Background
The Accra High Court in a landmark ruling, acquitted Michael Nyinaku, of all 43 criminal charges leveled against him, including stealing, money laundering, and fraudulent breach of trust.
The court ruled that Nyinaku had no case to answer, effectively ending a years-long legal battle that placed him at the center of alleged financial misconduct.
Beige Bank, one of several indigenous banks affected by the central bank’s reforms, had its license revoked in August 2018 by the Bank of Ghana over what the regulator described as severe irregularities and non-compliance.
Following the revocation, the institution was placed under receivership, leading to a detailed investigation and subsequent charges by the Office of the Attorney General.
