NPP releases timetable for 2026 presidential primaries

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially released the timetable for its upcoming presidential primaries, outlining a series of activities that will culminate in the election of a flagbearer for the 2026 general elections.

According to the schedule, nominations for presidential aspirants will open on Monday, July 29, 2025, and close on Wednesday, August 28, 2025.

The vetting of aspirants is set to take place from September 15 to 22, during which the party will assess the eligibility and qualifications of all candidates.

Following the vetting process, the National Council (NC) and the National Executive Council(NEC) is expected to receive the vetting committee’s report on September 29.

A window has been provided for the submission of petitions from September 30 to October 3, allowing aggrieved parties to raise concerns or seek redress.

NEC and the National Council will convene on October 7 to finalize decisions ahead of the next phase of the primaries.

The final list of nominees will be made public on October 8, followed by balloting on October 10 to determine the placement of candidates on the ballot paper.

A formal notice of poll will be issued on October 17, setting the stage for the main election, which will be held on January 31, 2026.

In the event of a run-off, election has been scheduled for February 14, 2026.

Party officials have urged all aspirants and supporters to abide by the rules of the process and conduct themselves in a manner that reflects the democratic values of the NPP.
