Former Ghana international, Awudu Issaka, has addressed the rape and sexual assault charges slapped on former Arsenal and Ghana midfielder, Thomas Partey.

In an interview on Sporty FM, while acknowledging Partey’s support in the past, Issaka expressed his heartfelt hope that the case turns out to be baseless.

“Thomas Partey has really helped me. So, I pray his case becomes foolish,” he said.

His words come as news circulates that the Crown Prosecution Service has charged Partey with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, brought by three women alleging incidents between 2021 and 2022.

Partey, 32, who joined Arsenal from Atlético Madrid in 2020 and has earned over 50 caps for Ghana, including featuring at the 2022 World Cup, denies all allegations and has cooperated with authorities during the multi-year investigation.

Criticism has focused on how Arsenal handled the matter, as Partey continued playing for the club while under investigation before his contract expired on June 30, 2025.

Manager Mikel Arteta has since insisted the club “100 per cent” followed correct protocols during that period.

Partey is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates Court on August 5, 2025, where legal proceedings will unfold.

The Crown Prosecution Service has emphasised the need for public restraint, reminding that Partey is presumed innocent until proven guilty and that his right to a fair trial must be protected.
