How NPP was forced to delete Bawumia’s image from conference flyers

Former Communication Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akomea has stated that a section of the party members forced the organisers of the just-ended delegates conference to take Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s image off all banners and flyers ahead of the event.

According to him, the organisers obliged and removed the image of the former Vice President and flagbearer of the NPP in the 2024 elections from the main flyers of the event, which was held on July 19, 2025

Nana Akomea made this revelation while speaking on a panel discussion on Peace FM’s morning show Kokrokoo on Tuesday, July 22, 2025.

According to Nana Akomea, the NPP designed flyers for the delegates conference which contained images of all prominent personalities of the party including two ex-presidents J A Kuffour and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Pictures of ex-Vice President Aliu Mahama as well as other party stalwarts were prominently featured on the main flyer used on the day.

However, conspicuously missing was the image of the immediate past vice president, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who led the NPP to the 2024 general elections as presidential candidate.

Nana Akomea explained that an image of the former vice president who has interest to contest the upcoming flagbearship race of the party, was originally included.

However, the organisers, he revealed, were forced to take it off because some people resisted the idea saying it was going to give undue advantage to him.

“Have you seen the posters that were designed for the conference? They contained the images of big party stalwarts, Bawumia was part because he is the former vice president…

“Do you know that some people agitated till Bawumia’s picture was taken out because of the in-fighting around the party’s flagbearership? I’m deeply convinced that the proposal by Kwabena Agyapong for early primary is best proposal that the NPP has had in recent years,” he emphasised.

He suggested that an early primary would be the panacea the party needs in its quest to build the strong and united party it aspires to become.
