A 31-year-old man, Issahaku Waris, has been sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment for defiling a five-year-old girl in the Upper West Region.
The Wa Circuit Court, presided over by His Lordship Jonathan Avogo, delivered the judgment on Friday, July 18, after months of legal proceedings.
According to the police, the incident occurred on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at Wa Zongo, where Waris resides.
He was arrested two days later, on Saturday, April 26, by officers from the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service.
A statement issued by the Upper West Regional Police Command and signed by Deputy Regional Commander ACP Peter Kwamasa noted that the conviction followed thorough investigations and collaboration with the victim’s family.
The Ghana Police has reiterated its commitment to protecting children and encouraged the public to report cases of abuse promptly to ensure swift justice.
“The Regional Command remains committed to safeguarding the rights and welfare of children and encourages the public to report all forms of abuse promptly.”
