Reject aspirants who disobey party directives- NPP to delegates

By Edward Acquah

Accra July 19, GNA – The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has directed its members to reject aspirants who would flout the party’s rules governing internal elections.

The Party charged its members to”deny” aspirants who would publicly campaign before the Party officially announced the opening of nominations for its internal elections.

Addressing delegates at the Party’s National Delegates Conference in Accra, Mr Justin Kodua Frimpong, General Secretary, NPP, said the members of the Party must respect the NPP’s structures and authority.

He said officers of the party must understand that individual interest should not override the party’s interest.

“Until we officially open nominations for aspirants, let’s continue to deny people from coming to our constituencies.” Mr Kodua said.

“We are a disciplined Party and anyone who wants to lead the Party must exhibit discipline,” he added.

Mr Kodua criticised the decision by Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie, the NPP’s Parliamentary candidate for Ablekuma North, for disregarding the Party’s decision to boycott the rerun of 19 polling stations to resolve the standoff in the 2024 Parliamentary results.

He said the NPP’s decision to boycott the rerun was “for good reasons.”

Mr Kodua said the NPP would use the Conference as a tool to recapture power in 2028.

Over 5,500 delegates are attending the Conference in Accra to vote on proposed amendments to the party’s constitution.

The conference aims to deliberate on key reforms, including the potential abolition of the Special Electoral College system used to elect the party’s presidential candidate.

Other proposals include restructuring Constituency and Regional Executive Committees and establishing Electoral Area Committees to strengthen the party’s grassroots.

The event, on the theme: “Rebuilding Together with our Values,” seeks to promote unity and harmony within the party and work together recapture power in 2028.
