Osman Ayariga, Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority (NYA), has condemned what he described as violent rhetoric from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), urging a more peaceful and responsible approach to political engagement as per reports from Ghana Web.
His reaction followed recent remarks reportedly made by the NPP National Youth Organiser, suggesting that the party would “storm Akwatia with cutlasses and machetes.”
Ayariga, addressing members of the Tertiary Education Institutions Network (TEIN) at the University of Ghana, dismissed the comment as both inflammatory and unnecessary.
He used the opportunity to stress that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is not intimidated by threats, suggesting that the presence of their supporters in Akwatia would be enough to counter any attempt at violence.
“Our presence there alone will make them run,” he stated, urging calm and civility.
Rather than responding in kind, Ayariga called for a metaphorical cleansing of the political environment, saying, “We don’t need cutlasses to clear the air. All we need is hand sanitiser, because it’s a virus.”
The NYA boss further emphasised the importance of unity and mobilization among the youth ahead of the national elections.
His remarks were delivered as part of a broader campaign effort to rally students under TEIN in preparation for future political activities.
He warned that any aggressive move would be strongly resisted, hinting that such tactics had failed in the past.
