A former Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North, Peter Kwamena Essilfie Kwamina Bartels, has called on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to ensure that all proposals under review at its ongoing National Delegates Conference are rooted in practicality and aimed at fostering unity within the party.
Speaking in an interview on Channel One TV on Saturday, July 19, Mr. Bartels acknowledged the strong ideas behind many of the proposals but emphasised that their impact would only be meaningful if effectively implemented.
“The thought behind the proposals is good. The only thing that we need to do is to ensure their practicality and also ensure that they achieve the purpose for which they were brought, particularly to bring unity to the party and make us the winning team, because it is all about power,” he stated.
Mr. Bartels’ comments come as the NPP holds its much-anticipated National Delegates Conference at the University of Ghana Stadium in Accra. The event has drawn over 5,500 delegates from across the country and is widely regarded as a pivotal moment for the party following its defeat in the 2024 general elections. This year’s conference is being held under the theme “Rebuilding Together with our Values.”
Chairman of the Planning Committee, Joseph Osei Owusu, has revealed that the conference will deliberate on over 50 consolidated motions. These motions, he noted, were drawn from more than 300 amendment proposals submitted to the party’s Amendments Committee.
Adding to the discussion, Ofoase Ayirebi MP Kojo Oppong Nkrumah disclosed that the process of refining the proposals into actionable motions took over three months of consultations and stakeholder engagement.
The conference is expected to help reposition the NPP by advancing reforms focused on unity and internal renewal as the party looks ahead to future electoral contests.
