Ghana’s former Vice President and 2024 NPP presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has paid glowing tribute to former Presidents John Agyekum Kufuor and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for their immense service to Ghana.

Speaking to NPP faithful at the 2025 NPP National Delegates Conference in Accra, Dr Bawumia urged members of the party to be proud of what he described as the “monumental and transformative” achievements of these Statesmen.

He believed their legacies will “stand the test of time”.

“In governance, there are ups and downs. Through the President J.A. Kufuor and President Nana Akufo-Addo periods, we succeeded at many things with monumental and transformational achievements…Their achievements will stand the test of time,” Dr Bawumia said.

President Kufuor, who led Ghana between 2001 and 2009, is credited for transforming the country through a number of notable policies which boosted both the public and private sectors.

He delivered key infrastructure developments and implemented numerous transformative social policies including the NHIS, free maternity and school feeding programme.

President Nana Akufo-Addo, who ruled from 2017 to 2024, introduced other industrialization and agriculture measures which transformed the nation.

He enhanced road and health infrastructure development as well as implementing one of Ghana’s biggest social intervention programmes which is his Free Senior High School policy aimed at giving free secondary education to millions of children across the country.
