Media personality and member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah, has called on the youth within the party to take greater responsibility in shaping its future while honouring the legacy of past statesmen.
Speaking to GhanaWeb TV on the sidelines of the NPP’s National Delegates Conference on Saturday, July 19, 2025, Afrifa emphasised that both former presidents John Agyekum Kufuor and Nana Akufo-Addo have “paid their dues” to the political tradition the party upholds.
He stressed that it is now time for the youth to rise to the occasion and take charge.
“President Kufuor has paid his dues to the tradition of the NPP. President Akufo-Addo has paid his dues to the tradition of the NPP. I think it’s our time, the youth of our party, to contribute our quota to the development of the tradition for which they have sacrificed a greater part of their lives,” he said.
Addressing the absence of the two political stalwarts, Afrifa noted that although they may not have been physically present, their influence remains paramount in the party.
He also acknowledged former President Kufuor’s current health condition, given the nature of the event.
“President Kufuor, of course, is old, so it’s not even advisable at his age, especially in an era marked by pandemics, that he be here. If he had chosen to be here, we would have been happy and grateful. But we’re even more grateful that the good Lord continues to protect him, so whenever we need advice on how to move forward, we can turn to him for proper guidance,” he added.
