At the National Delegates’ Conference of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on July 19, Daniel Adomako, also known as Sir Obama-Pokuase of Affa, will present a proposal to overhaul the party’s electoral process as per reports from Myjoyonline.

Adomako has submitted one of 59 constitutional amendments, all aimed at revitalising the party’s democratic processes after their hige loss in the 2024 general elections.

The NPP’s defeat to the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which won 56.55% of the presidential vote and secured 184 parliamentary seats, has sparked calls for deep structural reform within the party.

Adomako’s proposal seeks to address one of the core issues: the Special Electoral College.

Clause 9 of Article 13 currently enables a select group of senior members to reduce the pool of presidential aspirants before the main primary election.

Adomako argues that this “elitist” clause undermines the democratic integrity of the party by implying that the broader delegate body lacks the discernment to choose viable candidates.

He claims that the Special Electoral College has become a breeding ground for corruption, where bribes can influence decision-making.

“The operation of the Special Electoral College has demonstrated significant flaws,” Adomako said, adding that the system allows elites to manipulate the process.

He insists that repealing Clause 9 will restore trust in the party’s delegates and ensure a transparent, corruption-free presidential candidate selection process.
