Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is Ghana’s former Vice President
The 2024 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of political witchhunt claiming the NDC is actively working to undermine Ghana’s democracy.
Speaking to delegates at the NPP’s National Delegates Conference on July 19, 2025, Dr Bawumia charged party members to shift their focus to what he described as “dangerous” moves by the NDC that threaten the rule of law.
“Let us rather focus on the attempt by the NDC to undermine our democracy and rule of law in trying to remove the Chief Justice,” he said.
According to him, the NDC’s actions are part of a broader agenda that includes targeting the Electoral Commissioner next.
“Let us focus on their clear intention to go after the Electoral Commissioner subsequently,” he added.
He also condemned acts of violence during the Ablekuma by-election, stating that the thuggery was witnessed openly by both the police and the media.
“Let us focus on the violence and thuggery their hoodlums carried out in the recent Ablekuma election in full view of the police and cameras,” he charged.
