Celebrated Ghanaian rapper, Michael Owusu Addo, popularly known as Sarkodie, has confirmed plans to take his annual Rapperholic Concert to Kumasi, Ashanti Region, for the first time.

The highly anticipated concert is set to be held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on September 27, 2025.

The African music giant led a delegation to Manhyia on Friday, July 19, to plead for permission from Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to hold the concert in his Kingdom.

During his engagement with Asantehene, Sarkodie disclosed that he has been planning to hold his Rapperholic Concert in Kumasi for over a decade.

He stated that he believes this year is the right time to make that happen, as he sought the support of the Wise King.

“For nearly 12 years, I’ve been planning to bring Rapperholic to Kumasi. This year, I felt it was finally time. I came to humbly ask for your blessing and support, Nana,” Sarkodie told the Asantehene.

On his part, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II encouraged Sarkodie and assured him of his support for the upcoming event.

“I am happy to see you again. May your career continue to flourish. Stay humble and true to yourself. I will be there to witness it myself,” the King assured.

Ahead of the concert, concerns have emerged over its timing, which falls just weeks ahead of key continental fixtures.

Key among the concerns is that the event could compromise the pitch’s condition, an issue that previously led to a temporary CAF ban on the venue for not meeting required standards.

However, with the early confirmation of the intent to host the event at Baba Yara, it is expected that organisers will liaise with the National Sports Authority (NSA) to put things in place.

The Rapperholic Concert is an annual concert series that was created in 2012 and is organised by Sarkodie.

The event was first hosted on 24 December 2012. It will now be held in Kumasi for the first time this year in what should be a night to remember.
