Ablekuma North rerun crucial to ensuring representation in Parliament

The Electoral Commission (EC) says it is committed to bringing finality to the long-disputed parliamentary election in the Ablekuma North constituency by conducting a rerun in 19 polling stations on Friday, July 11.

Speaking ahead of the polls at a presser in Accra on Thursday, July 10, Dr. Bossman Asare, Deputy Chairman in charge of Corporate Services, said the Commission is keen to ensure that the people of Ablekuma North are not left without representation in Parliament due to unresolved electoral issues.

“On our part as the electoral management body, we are desirous of bringing the election in the Ablekuma North constituency to a conclusion and to ensure that the constituents have a representative in Parliament,” Dr. Asare said.

He explained that the EC has laid out a process to complete the collation of results, following a court ruling and public interest in the matter.

“We thus provided a path to complete the collation process to ensure that the residents of Ablekuma North have a representative in Parliament.”

Assuring political stakeholders and voters of a credible process, Dr. Asare reaffirmed the EC’s dedication to fairness and transparency.

“We assure the public and the political parties that, as always, we will live by our motto and ensure that the rerun is fair, transparent, and credible.”

He concluded by wishing the two candidates success at the polls.
