Mahama Ayariga, the Majority Leader in Parliament, has cautioned the New Patriotic Party Minority Caucus against politicizing the Electoral Commission’s decision to rerun parliamentary elections in 19 polling stations within the Ablekuma North Constituency.

The Minority had criticized the Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision, describing it as unfair and unjust, and is calling for the EC to be summoned before Parliament to explain the basis for the rerun.

Commenting on the matter on the Floor of the House on Thursday, Ayariga said, “I don’t know why you are afraid. Why are you afraid? Let us not try to politicize this and say that just because a national chairman of a political party made a statement, the EC is intimidated.”

He urged for calm and objectivity in handling the matter.

The EC has cited disputes over the authenticity of the December 7, 2024, election results as the reason for its decision to rerun the elections.

Meanwhile, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced plans to seek legal redress to restrain the EC from conducting the rerun in the affected polling stations.
