Kevin Taylor Sparks Outrage After Mocking Otumfuo with Eswatini King’s

Controversial US-based Ghanaian commentator Kevin Taylor has once again ignited public backlash—this time for mocking the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, in a viral video that compares him unfavorably to King Mswati III of Eswatini.

The drama unfolded after King Mswati III touched down in Ghana with a lavish entourage and a massive private jet, drawing admiration and curiosity from many Ghanaians. But for Kevin Taylor, it was an opportunity to throw shade. In a video that has since gone viral, Taylor sarcastically questioned Otumfuo’s influence and stature, implying that the Eswatini monarch’s grand arrival exposed a “lower level” of prestige for Ghana’s own royal figure.

“Apuu, do you see your level?” Taylor quipped as he juxtaposed the two monarchs’ public images. His comments have been widely condemned as disrespectful, especially given Otumfuo’s revered status in Ghanaian tradition and leadership.

This isn’t the first time Kevin Taylor has taken aim at Otumfuo. He previously criticized the king for attending the launch of an automobile museum in Accra instead of Kumasi, accusing him of neglecting his own region’s development. His latest remarks, however, have struck a deeper nerve, as many view them as an attack not just on Otumfuo, but on the dignity of the Ashanti Kingdom itself.

Social media has erupted with mixed reactions. While some of Taylor’s followers applauded his boldness, a larger chorus of voices—including traditionalists and cultural advocates—have called his comments “reckless,” “tribally insensitive,” and “a disgrace to Ghanaian values.”

As the dust settles, one thing is clear: Kevin Taylor’s brand of commentary continues to blur the line between critique and provocation. Whether this latest jab will have lasting consequences or simply fade into the noise of digital outrage remains to be seen.
