Sylvester Mensah Turns EximBank into Family Property – NPP PK Sarpong Alleges

On Monday, June 23, 2025, prominent NPP-affiliated political commentator and writer, P.K. Sarpong, made a startling post on his official Facebook page, alleging that Sylvester Mensah, the current Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Export-Import Bank (Ghana EximBank), is managing the institution as though it were his personal or family property.

According to Sarpong, one of the most shocking revelations is that cooked meals prepared for the staff of Ghana EximBank are reportedly being diverted to the home of Mr. Mensah’s daughter-in-law. “How on earth can a public official in such a sensitive position behave in this manner, and nobody is holding him accountable?” Sarpong questioned, expressing frustration over what he sees as growing impunity.

The outspoken commentator did not mince words in his criticism. He alleged that Sylvester Mensah has transformed the state institution into a playground for his family and cronies, a trend he described as dangerous and unacceptable in a functioning democracy. “Is EximBank now a family kitchen?” he asked rhetorically, insisting that such behavior reflects a gross abuse of public office and resources.

Sarpong’s post has since gone viral, sparking heated discussions across various social media platforms. While some have called for immediate investigations into the allegations, others argue that such issues highlight a broader trend of political appointees placing their personal interests above national development goals.

Many are now calling on civil society groups, the media, and Parliament to probe the matter thoroughly and hold those involved accountable. The silence from oversight bodies, Sarpong noted, is deafening and only encourages further abuse of power.

As public trust in state institutions continues to erode, these allegations—if true—could further damage the credibility of Ghana EximBank and the government’s anti-corruption posture.
