More than 200 former Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) are meeting former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia today, Monday, June 23, as the race to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) into the 2028 general election heats up.
The meeting, taking place at the Alisa Hotel in Accra, comes just days after Dr Bawumia hosted over 60 NPP Members of Parliament at his campaign office, where they publicly declared their support for his bid to become the party’s flagbearer.
The former MMDCEs, who served under previous NPP administrations, are expected to discuss strategies and possibly declare their support for Dr. Bawumia ahead of the crucial internal presidential primaries in January 2026.Â
Just a week before Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s meeting with over 200 former MMDCEs, fellow NPP flagbearer hopeful and former Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong, also engaged the same group in a closed-door session.
That meeting, believed to have taken place in Accra, was part of Mr Agyapong’s broader effort to shore up support ahead of the January 2026 presidential primaries of the New Patriotic Party.
