OSP must learn to take criticism in good faith – Wonder Madilo

A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) communication team, Wonder Madilo, has advised the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) to handle public criticism with maturity and tolerance, warning that internal feuds among government officials could undermine public trust in governance.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on Monday, June 23, Madilo stressed that the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, must adopt a more accommodating posture in the face of scrutiny, especially as a public officer leading a sensitive anti-corruption mandate.

“Kissi Agyebeng must also be very accommodating with criticisms. We know that his investigation is doing very well and all that, but he also must learn how to take criticisms in good faith or let them be, just let them be what they are,” he said.

Madilo expressed surprise over the OSP’s sharp reaction to recent remarks by Professor Ransford Gyampo, describing it as unnecessary, especially considering the volume of public critique the office has received since its inception.

“He has received more criticisms than this, so I do not know why this has escalated. People have written things and held conferences against him. Even the family of Ken Ofori-Atta has done the same, so I do not know why this has gotten out of hand,” Madilo stated.

He warned that continued public spats between high-ranking government officials risk damaging the image of the state and feeding political opponents with ammunition.

“I just pray that cool heads will prevail, and some high-ranking official will call them to order, and then we can have some sanity. It is very dangerous for government officials to be fighting among themselves. What you are doing is giving them ammunition,” he cautioned.

Madilo’s comments follow a growing public disagreement between the Office of the Special Prosecutor and Professor Ransford Gyampo, Acting CEO of the Ghana Shippers Authority. The OSP issued a public statement on Sunday, June 22, 2025, in response to Gyampo’s remarks during a June 21 interview on TV3.

In the interview, Prof. Gyampo questioned the motive behind the OSP’s investigation into former Finance Minister Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta, saying, “I hope the OSP is not motivated by vendetta but out of patriotism.”

The OSP rejected the comment as “unfounded” and warned that such statements could damage the credibility of Ghana’s anti-corruption fight. The office also revealed that Prof. Gyampo had contacted them during a legal search of Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML), supported by National Security operatives.
