A Ghanaian professor, Wisdom Tettey, has been inducted as the 17th President and Vice-Chancellor of Carleton University, a leading public institution in Canada.

He assumed the role officially on January 1, 2025.

According to Carleton University’s official website, the formal installation ceremony took place on Monday, June 16, 2025, during the university’s spring convocation.

The event marked the official beginning of Professor Tettey’s leadership, ushering in a new era of inclusive academic excellence, innovation, and global engagement at Carleton.

Here is a brief profile of Professor Wisdom Tettey

Prof Tettey joined Carleton from the University of Toronto, where he served as Vice-President and was Principal of the Scarborough campus between 2014 and 2018.

Previously, he held the roles of Dean of the Irving K. Barber School of Arts and Sciences and of the Faculty of Creative and Critical Studies, both at the University of British Columbia’s Okanagan campus, and was Interim Dean of the Faculty of Communication and Culture at the University of Calgary.

He is an elected Fellow of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences and serves on advisory and editorial boards for several academic publications.

Prof Tettey has also contributed to regional and local development through board service with organisations such as the Toronto PanAm Sports Centre and CivicAction.
