Dancehall musician, Shatta Wale, has hit back at critics, particularly media personality Johnnie Hughes, amid growing calls for the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) to investigate celebrities flaunting luxury lifestyles on social media.

This comes after a viral video circulated on June 19, 2025, in which Johnnie Hughes joined a section of concerned netizens urging the GRA to question public figures who display extravagant wealth without a clear, traceable source of income.

In the video, Hughes questioned why some celebrities are suddenly rushing to explain the source of their wealth, especially in the wake of recent FBI arrests of suspected fraudsters.

“They say; this is my Rolls Royce, Bentley, Maybach do you know how much those cars cost what work have you done? Our very own institutions in this country have also failed us to a very large extent. Somebody just suddenly starts showing these things anyhow.

“If I were working at GRA, I will just invite you to come and show me your books and how you made the money. It is that simple. I am not going to fight you, I am not going to come and pick you up in a Rambo style… I will just invite you to come and explain to me how did you make it,” he said.

The media personality’s comments have since been widely interpreted as a subtle jab at the likes Shatta Wale.

In response, Shatta fired back at Johnie, stating that he has nothing to hide and wouldn’t be intimidated if the GRA decided to question him.

“Kwasiaaaaa you think GRA don’t have ways to check how I bought… Villager speaking English human being,” he said.
