The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Kodua Frimpong, has stated that the party has not yet received any official communication from its National Chairman, Stephen Ntim, regarding reports of his ill health.
In a video shared on The1957News’ X account on June 17, 2025, Kodua clarified that although Ntim’s family had written to inform the party of his condition, the chairman himself had not formally notified the party of his inability to perform his duties.
“We have not officially heard from him. It is the family that wrote the letter to us,” he said when approached by a reporter ahead of the NPP’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on June 17, 2025, in Accra.
He explained that, per the party’s internal arrangements, the Vice Chairman is mandated to step in when the Chairman is unavailable.
“In the absence of the National Chairman, there is a Vice Chairman. The Vice Chairman takes over, not the General Secretary,” he noted.
When asked whether Stephen Ntim would be present at the meeting, Kodua responded, “I do not know. Let’s wait and see.”
The NPP’s National Executive Committee (NEC) held a crucial meeting at the Alisa Hotel in Accra to deliberate on proposed constitutional reforms that could significantly reshape the party’s internal power dynamics and electoral processes.
Chaired by the party’s First Vice Chairman, Danquah Smith Buttey, the meeting drew top-tier party leadership, including former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, and Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi-Boasiako.
At the heart of the discussions was a proposal from the party’s Constitution Review Committee recommending a sweeping review of the NPP’s internal rules, among other reforms.
