Government secures €5M grant from Italy to boost technical, vocational education

Govt secures a €5 million grant from the Italian government to support TVET in the country

The government has secured a €5 million grant from the Italian government to support technical and vocational education and training (TVET) in the country.

In a video shared by Citi FM’s X account on June 18, 2025, the Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, made the announcement during the inauguration of a new chair for technical and vocational education.

According to the minister, the support will help equip more young people with practical skills, reduce dependence on the overcrowded public sector, and promote entrepreneurship among the youth.

“I should receive formal communication on it by the close of this week but at least we are sure.

“Now, we need to produce entrepreneurs who can create their own jobs and not depend on the overcrowded public sector of Ghana,” he said.

The minister described the appointment of the new TVET chair as a timely intervention to facilitate youth empowerment and innovation.

“That is why today’s inauguration is important for us. You can provide that leverage and that opportunity for young people to be on their own and become entrepreneurs who can create jobs on their own,” he stated.

He added that institutions aligned with the programme would benefit from the grant, depending on their capacity and initiative.

“I should assure you that if you are even to recommend beneficial institutions, you will be one. Indeed, the best, depending on what you choose,”he added.

The grant is expected to bolster Ghana’s TVET agenda and contribute to long-term job creation efforts.
