She was first diagnosed in 2021 and underwent six months of chemotherapy in Dubai, returning to Nigeria with hopes of resuming her career. For a while, she showed signs of recovery. Gbemi was known not just for her beauty and talent, but for her warm spirit and professionalism on set. Her roles in films like Imelda and World Famous had begun to earn her a loyal fan base.

Tributes poured in from across the industry. Actress Nkechi Blessing, who worked closely with Gbemi, wrote: “This is a hard pill to swallow. You fought like a warrior. Rest in peace, Gbemi.” Actor Kunle Afod also posted a photo of her, saying: “Gone too soon. May your soul find peace.”

Gbemi Anjola’s death is a devastating loss to Nollywood. She was considered one of the next-generation stars—talented, humble, and full of potential. Her passing has reignited calls for better awareness and support for cancer victims in Nigeria, especially in the entertainment industry, where many suffer in silence.
