Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, a prominent figure in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Chairman of Asaase Broadcasting, has expressed strong disapproval of the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s handling of former Minister of Finance Ken Ofori-Atta.

According to him, he is appalled by the treatment of the former minister, especially given his current health conditions.

Speaking in an interview on Asaase Radio on Monday, June 16, 2025, Otchere-Darko said, “I’m disgusted about how Ken Ofori-Atta has been treated. I’m disgusted. He’s doing well and I think he’s on an intensive recovery for the next couple of weeks at least. It [medical treatment] went well and we thank God for that.”

Sharing his personal experience with Ofori-Atta, Gabby eulogised him, stating that the former minister, who is currently being pursued by the OSP, an anti-corruption agency, entered politics to selflessly serve in the nation’s interest rather than for personal gain.

He supported his claim by referencing the country’s economic growth and progress during Ofori-Atta’s first four years as Minister of Finance under the previous government.

He also criticised the citizenry, accusing them of unfairly blaming Ofori-Atta for the country’s economic woes.

He argued that the economic challenges were not the former appointee’s fault, emphasising his achievements during his first four years in office.

“The Ken Ofori-Atta that I know came to politics not for personal gain. He came to politics because he believed he could serve. And we saw what happened in the first four years that he was finance minister.

“We saw what happened, especially after 2021. When I hear the conversation about what the country went through, I think we’ve been unfair to him. And I will say this for a fact because, yes, for the first four years we saw the work that he did,” he added.

The OSP has declared the former minister a wanted fugitive after he failed to comply with a directive to appear before the agency.
