Parliament summons EC Chair over Ablekuma North elections

Parliament has summoned the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa, to appear before the House next week amid mounting pressure over the unresolved Ablekuma North parliamentary results.

The EC is yet to complete the recollation of results from the 2024 elections in the constituency, despite repeated calls from stakeholders. Last week, the Minority Caucus petitioned the Ghana Police Service to provide security for the EC to finalise the process.

Presenting the Business Statement on the floor of Parliament on Friday, June 13, Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga announced that the EC Chair will appear before a Committee of the Whole to respond to two questions related to the electoral impasse.

“The Electoral Commission will be asked two questions, so the EC Chair will appear before the committee of the whole to answer two questions,” Ayariga stated.

He also disclosed that the Ministers for the Interior and for Works, Housing and Water Resources will brief Parliament on Wednesday, June 18, on recent flooding incidents across the country and steps being taken to address them.
