The company, Batuowiisi Company Limited, was registered in 2017 in the names of Chinnia’s brother, cousin, and driver — just after his appointment as Deputy Upper West Regional Minister. Not long after, the company secured a GHS 2.6 million “Planting for Food and Jobs” contract. By 2019, it had bagged a GHS 12.6 million road project. However, an on-site investigation by JoyNews found incomplete work and questionable project outcomes.
Despite clear conflict-of-interest red flags, Chinnia denies any wrongdoing, claiming he had no stake in the company. But anti-corruption groups like the Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII) have demanded his suspension and a CHRAJ investigation, citing breaches of the Public Procurement Act.
This case has become a classic example of how power and public funds are often used to benefit political allies — a recurring theme in Ghana’s governance system.
