The Office of the Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, has dismissed claims that the Court of Appeal in Kumasi has declared Nii Adama Latse II as the Ga Mantse.

In a press statement dated June 13, 2025, it described the reports, which have been widely circulated on social media, as false, misleading, and legally unfounded.

“We wish to state unequivocally that this assertion is false, misleading, and legally unfounded. Legal experts have affirmed that, under Ghanaian law, the Courts have no jurisdiction to determine causes or matters affecting chieftaincy, as such matters fall exclusively within the purview of the Judicial

Committees of the Traditional Councils, Regional and National Houses of Chiefs.

“It is, therefore, legally inaccurate to claim that the Court of Appeal, Kumasi, has declared Nil Adama Latse II as Ga Mantse,” it noted.

The Office of the Ga Mantse further clarified that the Court of Appeal did not rule on the chieftaincy status of Nii Adama Latse II but rather affirmed an earlier High Court decision ordering the National House of Chiefs to restore his name to the National Register of Chiefs — an administrative matter, not a ruling on legitimacy.

“The Court of Appeal merely affirmed the High Court’s earlier order of mandamus compelling the National House of Chiefs to restore the name into the National Register of Chiefs within 14 days. This was because it insisted that the removal must be done accordingly to law,” the statement noted.

It also reminded the public that a substantive case regarding the rightful occupant of the Ga Mantse Stool is still pending before the Judicial Committee of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs in Dodowa.

“It is important to inform the general public that a chieftaincy dispute concerning the rightful occupant of the Ga Mantse Stool is currently pending before the Judicial Committee of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs at Dodowa. It was initiated by Nii Adama Latse II (as Petitioner) against King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II (referred to as Dr Kelvin Tackie, along with Nii Agyemang Kesse II, Dr. Nii Tetteh Kwei, and Nii Dodoo Nsaki II (as Respondents), under Suit No. GARHC/P2/2019”, it indicated.

It reaffirmed that only the Judicial Committee can determine the rightful occupant of the Ga Mantse Stool, adding that until a final ruling is made, His Royal Majesty King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II remains the lawful and recognized Ga Mantse.

It further clarified that King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II was not a party in the Court of Appeal ruling issued on June 12, 2025. The parties involved were Nii Adama Latse II, the National House of Chiefs, and Nii Tetteh Ashong, the Ga Paramount Stool Seitse.

“We reiterate that the only body competent to determine the rightful occupant of the Ga Mantse Stool is the Judicial Committee of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs, and that determination is still pending. Until such a decision is made, His Royal Majesty King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II remains the legitimate and recognized Ga Mantse”, it added.

The Office of the Ga Mantse urged the media to disregard the misleading narratives being circulated, urging all well-meaning GaDangme citizens and residents of the Ga State to remain calm and not allow themselves to be swayed by misinformation.

“We call on the general public and the media to disregard the misleading interpretations being propagated by supporters of Nii Adama Latse II. We urge all well-meaning GaDangme citizens and residents of the Ga State to remain calm and not be swayed by misinformation,” it added.
