Ghanaian actor and content creator, Jeffery Nortey
Ghanaian actor and content creator, Jeffery Nortey, has opened up about how he ventured into comedy skits and built his personal brand.
In an interview on Daybreak Hitz with Doreen Avio on June 12, 2025, Jeffery revealed that there was a point in his acting career when scripts simply stopped coming in, for various reasons.
“At a point in my acting career, the scripts weren’t coming. I was told I didn’t suit the roles. I looked too young. I couldn’t play the boyfriend role to Jackie [Appiah] or whoever was on top at the time,” he shared.
Despite the setbacks, Jeffery Nortey said his passion for acting never faded. Driven by the love for the craft rather than money, he said he decided to take matters into his own hands.
“I really wanted to act, so I decided to put one or two things together and create short films. When I put them out there, people started calling them ‘skits.’ They thought it was funny, but honestly, I didn’t think it was funny. Even now, I don’t think I’m funny,” he said.
According to Jeffery, the short films ended up giving him the exposure he needed.
He said, although people saw them as humorous, he was simply trying to portray real-life experiences through acting.
“People say I make them laugh, but I’m actually acting. I’m showing real-life situations, and if you find that funny, that’s fine. It’s subjective. I’m just happy I’m making you laugh, because truthfully, I could just as easily make you cry,” he said.
As the audience grew and the feedback became more encouraging, Jeffery said he leaned into the new creative path.
“People loved the quality and kept motivating me to do more. I realised it was giving me exposure, so I kept going. Then I figured out I could monetize it. And here we are,” he stated.
