Former Member of Parliament for Anyaa-Sowutuom, Dickson Adomako Kissi, has stated that the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) must be kept in check.

He expressed concern over the OSP’s handling of the Interpol Red Notice regarding former finance minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, terming the move as overstepping its bounds.

According to him, maintaining oversight of the OSP is necessary to prevent potential abuse of power and to ensure the office is not used as a tool for settling personal or political scores.

“The special prosecutor certainly is overreaching. That is my thought and you know, if you’re a prosecutor, you also need to be put in check. That is where I’m coming from. He needs to be put in check and maybe he needed to exhaust all possible avenues before issuing a Red Alert Notice for Ofori-Atta,” he said while speaking on Channel One on Tuesday, June 10, 2025.

Adomako Kissi further questioned the OSP on why he took that action when he has not exhausted all available avenues at his disposal in trying to reach Ofori-Atta.

He believes that, there are other ways to contact the former minister to conduct his investigations, including an in-person visit to the former minister abroad.

“In fact, to say the least, what even prevents the prosecutor’s office from visiting Ofori-Atta? This is a high-profile case. If Nana Addo needs to be questioned, we’ll afford him the respect and go to his resident and question him. I think that yes, Ken Ofori-Atta is being sought for supposed crimes, but who is checking the OSP in terms of being overreaching and being a bit exuberant,” he asked.

His remarks are in line with the OSP’s declaration of the former minister as a wanted fugitive and the issuance of an Interpol Red Notice for him.

The OSP took this action after Ofori-Atta failed to appear before the anti-corruption agency on a previously agreed date.
