Babies With Sharp Teeth Tag: ‘At some point we wore it like a badge

Minister in Charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu Minister in Charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu

Minister in Charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has stated that the description of him and other young appointees in the late President Atta Mills’ government by the late former President Jerry John Rawlings as “babies with sharp teeth” did not bother him in the least.

According to the outspoken politician, who is also the Member of Parliament for Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese, he and his colleagues took the tag in stride and served the nation to the best of their abilities.

Speaking to Joy News on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, Felix Kwakye Ofosu said they could not have been embarrassed by the tag, as their focus in government was to excel and not betray the trust the late President Mills had in them as young politicians.

“I didn’t find that description discomforting. Indeed, at some point, we wore it like a badge. We always said it was based on principle.”

In 2018, late former President Jerry John Rawlings said he was not yet done with the so-called “babies with sharp teeth” in his National Democratic Congress (NDC) part who are only interested in bastardising the truth.

According to him, he has been misrepresented by the younger generation, those he described as ‘babies with sharp teeth’ as someone who hates to see young people in leadership positions.

“I am 70 and I am not the one who is bastardising the youth”, he said, explaining that if the younger generation (the one’s with the sharp teeth) had not attempted to bastardise the truth, then probably there wouldn’t have been the need for him to render an apology in his latest criticisms of former Presidents Kuffour and Mahama.

The former president, who was reacting to a question during the Second Revolutionary Lecture Series held at the National Theatre on Thursday said he has no interest in bastardising the so-called “babies with sharp teeth”
