The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, received the Open Letters of five envoys to Ghana on Monday, June 2, marking a significant day of diplomatic engagement and reaffirming Ghana’s commitment to international cooperation and bilateral development.
The Minister welcomed the Ambassador-Designate of Burundi, H.E. Mr. Edouard Nduwimana, commending Burundi’s resilience and progress towards national stability.
He underscored Ghana’s interest in expanding collaboration in technical assistance, knowledge exchange, and capacity-building. Mr. Nduwimana expressed Burundi’s readiness to deepen ties and highlighted investment opportunities in health, education, and tourism.
Also presenting credentials was the Ambassador-Designate of Tunisia, H.E. Mr. Antit Mohsen. Discussions centred on strengthening cooperation in trade, agriculture, and sports. Both sides agreed on the importance of establishing a Permanent Joint Commission for Cooperation (PJCC) to facilitate sustained engagement. Mr. Mohsen reaffirmed Tunisia’s commitment to regional solidarity and African unity.
H.E. Mr. Lincoln George Downer, the High Commissioner-Designate of Jamaica, also submitted his Open Letters, emphasising the importance of Ghana-Jamaica ties.
The Minister praised Jamaica’s support for initiatives such as the Year of Return and the Black Star Experience. Mr. Downer encouraged Ghanaian investment in Jamaica’s growing ICT sector and backed calls for a PJCC.
The Ambassador-Designate of Greece, H.E. Mr. Athanasios V. Kotsionis was received with discussions focusing on economic cooperation in tourism, the green economy, and maritime industries. Both parties stressed the need for partnerships that yield mutual benefits, building on the longstanding friendly relations between the two nations.
Representing Asia, the Ambassador-Designate of Vietnam, H.E. Mr. Bui Quoc Hung presented his Open Letters and reflected on six decades of Ghana-Vietnam relations. Talks centred on enhancing cooperation in agriculture, trade, and value addition, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to advancing mutual prosperity.
In a separate courtesy call, the High Commissioner of Rwanda, H.E. Rosemary Mbabazi met with the Minister to express Rwanda’s gratitude for Ghana’s role in supporting peace during the Rwandan genocide.
She praised the Ghana Armed Forces for their peacekeeping efforts and called for enhanced relations through the establishment of a PJCC. The Minister affirmed Ghana’s continued commitment to Rwanda and to global peace.
The presentation of Open Letters by five new envoys—plus the visit by Rwanda’s High Commissioner—underscores Ghana’s ongoing efforts to strengthen international partnerships and contribute meaningfully to global and regional cooperation.
