The late Mamponghene, Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, is expected to be buried in the evening of Monday, June 9, 2025, after the completion of his three-day traditional funeral rites, known as ‘Dote Yie’.

Daasebre Osei Bonsu, born on December 31, 1939, passed away at the age of 86 after serving as Mamponghene for 26 years.

A viral video sighted by GhanaWeb showed the day the Mamponghene, who was once the regent of the Asante Kingdom, swore his oath of allegiance to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, in 1999.

In the video, the late Osei Bonsu II is seen with the Mponponsuo “responsibility” sword, pledging his allegiance to the Asantehene and Asanteman.

“I’m the grandchild of Nana Ntiamoah, Nana Osei Bonsu, and I pledge to serve as diligently as my grandfathers did.

“… if the Otumfuo calls me in the morning, in the evening, at dawn, no matter the time he calls, I will come and serve him,” Daasebre Osei Bonsu said in the Twi dialect before proceeding to shake hands with Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
