Minister of Defence, Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, has facilitated the construction of an asphalt overlay on the internal roads of Pope John Senior High and Minor Seminary in Koforidua-Effiduase, Eastern Region.

The road improvement project, which comes ahead of the school’s upcoming 67th anniversary, has significantly transformed the campus environment.

Headmaster Rev Fr Benjamin Opoku Ohene last year appealed to the government to rehabilitate the deplorable roads in the school.

Once riddled with potholes and in a deplorable state, the school’s road network now boasts a smooth, durable surface, ensuring ease of movement for students, staff, and visitors alike.

Dr Omane Boamah, a proud alumnus of Pope John and a Cabinet Minister in the John Dramani Mahama government, championed the project as part of his commitment to giving back to his community.

“The aim is to fix the deplorable nature of the road network to facilitate the free movement of staff, students, and visitors, smooth traffic control, whilst improving productivity,” he stated.

The project’s benefits go beyond the school grounds, positively impacting neighbouring facilities such as the St Joseph Hospital and the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation’s regional office.

The construction extended from the school campus to the main Effiduase road, enhancing access for the wider community.

As Pope John prepares to mark its 67th anniversary, sponsored by the 1997 year group from June 13 to 15, the facelift has brought fresh excitement to the campus.

The anniversary celebrations will feature a Founders’ Day Mass, a Speech and Prize-Giving Day, and a homecoming event.

The occasion is expected to attract prominent government officials, clergy, past students, and academic leaders.

Dr Omane Boamah is expected to be Guest Speaker.
