Construction begins on Phase II of Blekusu Sea Defence Project

The government has awarded Phase II of the Blekusu Sea Defence Project to Amandi Holdings Ltd, bringing hope to residents of Agavedzi, Salakope, and surrounding coastal communities battered by destructive tidal waves.

Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, announced the development in a Facebook post, confirming that Amandi is already mobilising equipment and setting up an operational base at Azizadzi for the commencement of full-scale construction.

“I’m pleased to inform you that the Phase II of the Blekusu Sea Defence Project has officially been awarded to Amandi,” Mr. Gunu stated.

He added: “The company is currently mobilising and setting up its operational base at Azizadzi.”

To support affected residents, the Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC), in collaboration with Eximbank, has provided temporary shelters to facilitate relocation to safer areas.

Mr. Gunu also revealed plans for a permanent resettlement project to house those displaced by the tidal waves.

“We are working on a housing project which will serve as a permanent resettlement solution for displaced victims,” he added.

James Gunu expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for his continued commitment to coastal protection, noting that the Blekusu Sea Defence Project was initiated during his administration.

The government has also pledged continued food supplies and medical support throughout the construction period.

The news has sparked joy among residents, with many describing the project as a long-awaited solution.

Local leaders are urging cooperation from residents to ensure smooth implementation of the project.

With construction now underway, hopes are high that this intervention will provide lasting protection, restore livelihoods, and bring stability to Ghana’s vulnerable coastal communities.
