Ve-Agbome (V/R), June 7, GNA-A Belgian philanthropist, Madam Chris Vanhentenrijck, and her team have constructed a new children’s home labelled ‘House of Angels’ for vulnerable children under the care of the Nneka Youth Foundation at Ve-Agbome in the Afadzato South District of the Volta Region.
The newly commissioned facility is expected to provide decent accommodation and a safe learning environment for the underprivileged children raised by the Foundation, which for years has struggled with space and infrastructural challenges.
Founded by Madam Cecilia Fiaka, the Nneka Youth Foundation, a not-for-profit youth and women empowerment entity, has been working tirelessly for over a decade to support the development of children, women, and the youth in underserved communities.
The Foundation currently is admitting children between the ages of four and six, nurtures them through formal education, mentorship, and care up to 18 years.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Madam Vanhentenrijck revealed that her motivation to support vulnerable children was deeply rooted in her own upbringing.
“I know what it means to be without hope. My childhood taught me the importance of giving back, and today, I’m grateful to be in a position to make a difference in the lives of these children,” she said.
An elated Madam Fiaka, full of gratitude, lauded the Belgian team for their generosity and used the occasion to appeal to well-meaning Ghanaians and the international community for continued support.
“This home is a symbol of love and hope for these children, but we cannot stop here. Every child deserves a haven, and we call on everyone to come onboard to sustain this mission,” Madam Fiaka pleaded.
Mrs. Yvonne Ame-Bruce, the Afadzato South Director of Education, urged the facilitators of the Foundation to align with the new school’s curriculum and engage in regular training sessions to remain equipped with modern teaching methods.
“The children here deserve the best. As education evolves, so must our approach to teaching and caring for them,” Mrs. Ame-Bruce emphasized.
Representing Togbui Akoto VIII, Chief of Ve-Agbome, Tsiame Nyavor expressed heartfelt appreciation for the kind gesture, encouraging other citizens and corporate bodies to emulate the example set by Madam Chris Vanhentenrijck and her team.
A representative from the Department of Social Welfare, Hermos Selase, also pledged his outfit’s commitment to supporting the home in various capacities to enhance the welfare of the children.
“We are happy to associate ourselves with this noble initiative and will provide the necessary assistance for the children’s growth and well-being,” Mr. Selase assured.
The House of Angels now stands as a beacon of hope for many vulnerable children in the Afadzato South District, a testament to the power of collaboration, compassion, and community-driven development.
