The Ablekuma Central Municipal Assembly has given a five-day ultimatum to individuals who leave vehicles by the roadside under the pretext of repairs.
They are to remove these vehicles immediately or face penalties.
This directive is part of a broader effort by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Frank Nkansah, to decongest the municipality.
“We are about to begin a decongestion exercise targeting the unauthorised use of public roads and spaces. Many main streets in Ablekuma Central have become makeshift car repair sites, causing congestion and inconvenience for residents and commuters,” Mr Nkansah said.
During an inspection tour on Friday, May 30, 2025, the MCE described the situation as a public nuisance and ordered that such vehicles be moved to proper garages.
“To restore order, the Assembly will deploy municipal guards on Thursday, June 5, 2025, to enforce our bylaws. Abandoned vehicles will be towed, and violators will be sanctioned as per local regulations,” he added.
Mr Nkansah reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to maintaining discipline, cleanliness, and safety across communities and called on residents to support the Assembly’s efforts in creating a more orderly and healthier environment.
As part of his tour, the MCE also visited an unauthorised dumping site near the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC) at Ayigbe Town, close to the Agbogbloshie market.
He expressed concern over the level of indiscriminate waste disposal in the area, warning that it poses serious environmental and public health risks.
“This is unacceptable. There is an urgent need for a coordinated national response to waste management,” he said.
Mr Nkansah stressed that while local assemblies are doing their part, tackling the sanitation crisis requires the involvement of government agencies, the private sector, and the general public.
He added that the Assembly will soon roll out stricter measures to stop illegal dumping and improve sanitation in the municipality.
