Wontumi seeks review of bail conditions at High Court

Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has filed a motion at the High Court in Accra seeking a review of the bail conditions imposed on him by the Economic and Organised Office (EOCO).

The application, filed on May 30, 2025, challenges the GHS 50 million bail, which his legal team argues is excessive and intended to prevent his release.

The motion, was submitted by Marfo & Associates, the law firm representing Chairman Wontumi. The application requests the court to reconsider the bail terms based on the grounds outlined in the accompanying affidavit.

The court is scheduled to hear the motion on June 3, 2025, at 9:00 am. Chairman Wontumi’s legal team is expected to present arguments seeking a reduction or modification of the current bail conditions.

Meanwhile, leadership of the party was unsuccessful in their attempt to have access to Chairman Wontumi, at the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) headquarters in Accra.

Wontumi was reportedly transferred to the NIB following his detention by the Economic and Organised Office (EOCO) as part of an ongoing criminal investigation.

Despite being granted permission to enter the NIB premises at Ridge on Friday, May 30, former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin confirmed after exiting the facility that they were unable to meet with Wontumi.
