Minority Caucus reverses boycott, attends Parliament despite Wontumi’s GH¢50m bail protest

Leadership and members of the Minority Caucus were present in Parliament on Friday, May 30, 2025, despite an earlier announcement to boycott proceedings.

The boycott was declared in response to the Economic and Organised Crime Office’s (EOCO) GH¢50 million bail imposed on the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Benard Antwi Bosiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.

On Thursday, May 29, 2025, the Minority staged a walkout from Parliament and marched to the EOCO office to protest Chairman Wontumi’s detention.

Upon arriving at EOCO’s office, the Minority MPs sat on the street in front of the building for several minutes to protest the detention of Chairman Wontumi and what they described as “unfair” bail conditions.

Chairman Wontumi has been in EOCO custody since Tuesday, May 27, 2025, over an ongoing probe into alleged financial irregularities involving EXIMBANK.

EOCO granted him bail with strict conditions of GH¢50 million and two sureties, which his legal team has so far been unable to satisfy.
