A group of National Democratic Congress (NDC) youth in the Zebilla Constituency of the Bawku West District reportedly locked up the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) district office in protest over what they described as an attempt to cancel a rightful political appointment.

According to 3news.com, the protest was sparked by claims that party leaders, including the Member of Parliament for Zebilla Ebenezer Ndebilla Alumire interfering in the appointment of John Akutam Akparibilla as the YEA District Director.

Akparibilla, who is also the NDC Constituency Youth Organiser, was reportedly appointed by Acting YEA CEO Malik Basintale.

The protesting youth held up a copy of his appointment letter, demanding that he be allowed to take the position without any obstacles.

“John Akutam Akparibilla must remain the youth boss in the district, as done by his appointor, Malik Basintale,” the group declared.

Sources within the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) indicate that Akparibilla’s appointment letter has been sent back to the agency’s regional office in Bolgatanga, sparking fears that his appointment might be revoked.

The protesting youth cautioned that such an action could lead to widespread dissatisfaction among their ranks.

“Failure to maintain John Akutam Akparibilla as the district director of youth employment would cause more disaffection to the party in the district,” 3news quoted the group to have said.

Meanwhile, in a follow-up interview with the Member of Parliament for Zebilla by the media outlet, he denied the allegations, stating that he had no knowledge of the appointment in question saying, “I have no knowledge about John Akutam Akparibilla’s appointment as the YEA boss and will not oppose it if he has indeed been appointed.
