Battor (V/R), May 29, GNA – The North Tongu District Assembly, under the leadership of Victoria Amefadzi Yawa Doe, the District Chief Executive, on Wednesday held a special commemorative event at Battor R.C. Junior High School to mark International Menstrual Hygiene Day.
The event brought together students from Battor R.C. JHS, Battor D/A JHS, and Battor Methodist JHS, and served as a platform to educate, support, and empower young girls on the importance of menstrual hygiene.
As part of the programme, free sanitary pads were distributed to the students—an initiative spearheaded by Madam Doe in line with former President John Dramani Mahama’s broader vision to uphold the health, dignity, and confidence of young girls across the country.
“This gesture reflects our unwavering commitment to ensuring that no girl is hindered in her education or daily life due to a lack of access to menstrual hygiene products,” DCE Doe stated during the event.
“It was a deeply inspiring engagement, and I am proud that North Tongu continues to prioritise the welfare of our girls.”
She extended her appreciation to all partners and supporters who helped make the initiative possible, and encouraged ongoing support for girl-focused programmes across the district.
The students, in response, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the kind gesture. They shared how the provision of sanitary pads would significantly ease the challenges they face during menstruation, allowing them to attend school with greater confidence and comfort.

Many of them noted that the support would go a long way in reducing absenteeism and improving their overall well-being.
International Menstrual Hygiene Day, marked annually on May 28, aims to break taboos surrounding menstruation and raise awareness about the importance of good menstrual hygiene management.
