Some branch executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Effutu Municipality in the Central Region have rejected the nomination of Rev. Atta Mensah as Municipal Chief Executive (MCE).
According to the 150 branch executives of the party, the nomination of Atta Mensah following the rejection of the party’s constituency secretary, Abraham Henry Arthur, who was initially nominated by the president and subsequently rejected by assembly members, smacks of unfair treatment.
At a press conference to register their displeasure, the leader of the group, Frimpong Manso, who is the Ansaful Branch Youth Organiser, held that “while Atta Mensah is recognised as a true member of the party, his capabilities and contributions towards the party come nowhere near that of Abraham Henry Arthur.”
The members are strongly calling for the re-nomination of Henry Arthur and also for the exhaustion of the three-time confirmation attempts.
They have called on President John Dramani Mahama to reconsider the latter’s nomination which they strongly hold that, when allowed to stand, will cause disunity and weaken the party’s base in the constituency.
Abraham Henry Arthur garnered nine yes votes against 17 no votes in an attempt to have him confirmed as MCE amid escalated tensions and commotion.
